President Bola Tinubu has taken a fresh swipe at former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, questioning his leadership qualities and political consistency ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Tinubu made the remarks on Friday, November 6, during an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The President criticised Obi over his decision to leave the Labour Party and move to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), questioning whether his movement between political platforms demonstrated the character expected of a national leader.
Tinubu also revisited Obi’s eight-year tenure as governor of Anambra State, accusing him of failing to adequately address the state’s persistent erosion challenges.
Comparing Obi’s record with his own experience as Lagos State governor, Tinubu claimed he had confronted coastal challenges in Lagos, while Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno was also making progress in tackling erosion.
The President further criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar over his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and subsequent move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He urged Nigerians to carefully assess the leadership qualities, political character and track records of presidential hopefuls before deciding who deserves their votes in 2027.
Tinubu also defended his administration’s economic policies, acknowledging the hardship Nigerians have experienced but insisting that the country was gradually emerging from economic difficulties.
He appealed to voters, particularly young Nigerians, to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing their votes as a powerful instrument for determining the country’s future.
His comments come amid growing political activities and exchanges between the ruling APC and opposition figures as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
