Tinubu Must Hit Campaign Trail and Face Voters, Sam Amadi Says

Dr Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s limited presence on the campaign trail ahead of the 2027 general election.

Amadi argued that second-term presidents are expected to travel across the country to defend their records, explain their policies and engage directly with voters.

He expressed concern that Tinubu’s limited visits to states, including areas affected by tragedies, could raise questions about his approach to leadership and public engagement.

Amadi also suggested that Tinubu could face pressure from opposition figures, including Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Atiku Abubakar, as political activities gather momentum ahead of the election.

According to him, the President could strengthen his connection with Nigerians by participating in televised debates and speaking directly to citizens about his administration’s achievements, policies and plans for the country.

He maintained that direct engagement would give Tinubu an opportunity to address public concerns and explain his position on key national issues, particularly as Nigerians prepare to assess the performance of political leaders ahead of the next election.

The debate over Tinubu’s campaign strategy comes amid growing political discussions about how presidential candidates will connect with voters and present their programmes ahead of the 2027 polls.
