Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to pray for politicians, saying the political class remains a major problem facing the country.
Obi made the remarks while speaking during a church service, where he called on Nigerians to pray for politicians and for God to change their hearts.
“Pray for us politicians to stop stealing,” Obi said, stressing that politicians were responsible for many of the challenges confronting the country.
“Politicians are the problem of the country. There is nothing wrong with the country, but the politicians are the issue,” he added.
The former governor also argued that Nigeria is not a poor country, but that the country’s resources have not been properly managed for the benefit of its citizens.
According to him, Nigerians should pray for politicians to use public resources for the public good.
“Pray for us politicians. Let God touch us to cease stealing. Do not say one is good and another is bad. We (politicians) are the problem of the country,” Obi said.
Obi’s comments come amid continued concerns over corruption, public spending and the management of Nigeria’s resources.
He maintained that the country has what it takes to do better, arguing that responsible management of public funds would improve the lives of Nigerians.
