Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has dismissed concerns over the political strength of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying the NDC presidential candidate does not pose a threat to President Bola Tinubu or the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)
Umahi made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he was asked about Obi’s growing political profile and his potential impact on the 2027 presidential race.
According to the minister, Obi should not be singled out as the only presidential contender from the South-East, arguing that several other politicians from the region are also expected to contest the election.
“By the way, it is not only Peter Obi that is from the South-East that is contesting.
We have about three or four other presidential candidates who are contesting,” Umahi said.
He further noted that candidates from different political platforms, including the Labour Party and other emerging political groups, are also expected to participate in the race.
“We have the Labour Party and I think there are other two, even a woman is involved. So, Peter Obi is not a threat as far as I am concerned.
And should not be viewed as a major threat to the APC’s chances of retaining the presidency.
