The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an alleged counterfeit production facility where expired energy drinks, wines and whisky brands were reportedly being revalidated for resale in Lagos State.
According to the agency, the facility is located at Zamfara Plaza, BBA Trade Fair Complex, Lagos, where officials discovered an operation allegedly involving the alteration or revalidation of expired beverage products.
Two suspects were reportedly arrested at the scene while allegedly engaging in the illegal activity.
The discovery has raised fresh concerns about public health and consumer safety, as the sale of expired or improperly relabelled beverages could expose unsuspecting consumers to potential health risks.
Energy drinks and alcoholic beverages are widely consumed in Nigeria, making proper product labelling, expiration dates and regulatory compliance essential for protecting consumers.
NAFDAC has consistently warned against the sale and distribution of counterfeit, substandard and expired products, urging consumers to check product labels, expiry dates and packaging before making purchases.
Consumers are also encouraged to report suspicious products and sales outlets to the relevant authorities.
