Nigerian businesswoman Boo Hair has explained why she decided to speak publicly about her experience with her former house help, Lillian, amid allegations of robbery and other misconduct.
Boo,said her decision was driven by a desire to warn other families and prevent them from potentially experiencing similar situations.
“I shared my story because I felt like if I don’t come out and say what happened, the next person is going to employ a Lillian,” she said.
The businesswoman alleged that some domestic staff agencies continue to recommend workers to new households despite previous complaints. She explained that she waited until the police investigation had progressed before sharing her account publicly.
Recounting the events that raised her suspicions, Bo said Lillian replaced her cousin, Amarachi, as a domestic worker. According to her, concerns arose when Lillian allegedly suggested taking her son home from school by bus despite the family having a driver.
Boo said the request made her uncomfortable about her son’s safety, prompting her to alert the school. She further alleged that Lillian later displayed hostility towards the child.
The businesswoman also claimed that CCTV footage captured suspicious movements during a robbery at her home, which increased her concerns about the former domestic worker.
Boo,admitted that she regretted not dismissing Lillian when her initial suspicions arose. She also recounted a meeting involving Lillian and several other people, which she said left her feeling unsafe.
According to Bo, she subsequently presented CCTV evidence to senior police officials, while efforts were made to locate Lillian for further investigation.
Reflecting on the experience, Bo said the incident had left her traumatised and struggling to sleep.
“I don’t want another person to be a victim to what I went through. Let me be your sacrificial lamb,” she said.Her account has renewed conversations about domestic staff screening, household security and the importance of taking concerns about children’s safety seriously.
