Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, urging Nigerians to reject his re-election bid in 2027.
Amaechi made the remarks on Thursday, October 8, 2026, during an African Democratic Congress (ADC) town hall meeting in Benin City, Edo State.
The former Minister of Transportation criticised the economic hardship facing Nigerians, questioning why voters should support Tinubu for another term amid rising living costs.
He also urged Nigerians to support political change, highlighting the need for better economic policies, affordable education and improved governance.
Amaechi’s comments reportedly triggered reactions from the Presidency and the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with both criticising his remarks and defending the president’s political standing.
The exchange adds to growing political tensions as parties and opposition figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 general election.
