Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has felicitated Muslims across Nigeria as they mark this year’s Eid-el-Maulud, calling on Nigerians to embrace the values of peace, justice and unity.
Obi, in a message shared on X on Tuesday, described the occasion as an opportunity to remember the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
He said the Prophet’s life remains an example of “compassion, justice, humility, honesty, and service to humanity,” adding that his teachings continue to promote peace, tolerance and concern for others.
Obi also called for greater unity among Nigerians, regardless of their differences.
“I pray that Allah (SWT) grants us the wisdom to follow the noble path of the Prophet; a path of unity, fairness, and love for one another, regardless of tribe, religion, or region,” he said.
He further prayed for peace and progress in Nigeria and urged leaders to serve the country with sincerity and justice.
“May Allah bless Nigeria, protect our people, and guide our leaders to serve with sincerity and justice,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor also wished Muslims a peaceful and spiritually uplifting Maulud celebration.
The Federal Government declared Tuesday, August 25, a public holiday for this year’s Eid-el-Maulud. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, urged Muslims to use the occasion to reflect on the values of compassion, humility, peaceful coexistence and service to humanity.
Eid-el-Maulud, also known as Mawlid al-Nabi, is a Muslim observance commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad. It is traditionally marked on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The date changes each year on the Gregorian calendar because the Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle.
