₦4bn for South-East, ₦60bn for Other Regions: Umeh Raises Alarm Over Alleged Funding Disparity.
ABUJA — Senator Victor Umeh has challenged the alleged allocation of just ₦4 billion to a federal agency in the South-East, compared with ₦60 billion each to similar agencies in other regions, warning that the consequences of Igbo marginalisation could be huge.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, Umeh questioned the rationale behind the reported disparity, raising concerns over fairness and equity in the distribution of federal resources.
“The consequences of Igbo marginalisation will be huge,” the senator warned, as he drew attention to what he considers an imbalance in the funding of federal institutions across the country.
His intervention has renewed questions about the criteria guiding regional allocations and whether the South-East is receiving a fair share of federal development funding.
The figures cited by the senator, however, require verification against official budgetary records, including the identity of the agency involved, the fiscal year and the specific allocations across the regions.
Umeh’s remarks place the issue of regional equity before the Senate, with the relevant authorities expected to clarify the basis for the reported funding gap.
