We Made It Possible — EFCC Credits Itself for Extradition of Two Nigerians to US Over Sextortion

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has credited its collaboration with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for the arrest and extradition of two Nigerians facing prosecution in the US over alleged sextortion of minors.

The EFCC made this known in a post on its official X account on Saturday, following a statement by US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announcing that the two Nigerian men had been extradited to the United States.

Blanche had said the suspects were being prosecuted in two separate cases involving the alleged financially motivated sextortion of minors in Mississippi and North Carolina, with the cases linked to the deaths of two teenage victims.

The EFCC, in its Saturday post, quoted Blanche’s tweet highlighting the role played by its operatives in bringing the suspects to justice.

“The arrests and extradition of the suspects was made possible by the proficiency of the men and operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” the commission said.

The EFCC described the development as “a testament to the collaboration between the FBI and EFCC.”

The two suspects, identified as Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale, were arrested in Nigeria following investigations by the FBI into separate sextortion schemes targeting minors in the United States.

The extradition followed investigations into alleged sextortion schemes involving minors, with US authorities linking the cases to the deaths of teenage victims.

Blanche, in his statement announcing the extraditions, said the arrests were part of a wider operation involving the FBI to target individuals allegedly engaged in sexual extortion of minors.

“Anyone who allegedly exploits vulnerable children in the U.S. will be pursued no matter where they are in the world,” he said.

The two men will now face prosecution in the United States, where the allegations against them will be tested in court.
