President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to give an account of the reforms introduced by his administration since 2023.
Tinubu gave the directive in a statement released on Wednesday while announcing the presentation of the government’s “Reforms Scorecard.”
The President said the scorecard would provide Nigerians with details of what the reforms have achieved, their costs and the greater costs and harms the government believes were prevented by implementing the measures.
“When we began this journey of reform in 2023, I promised that the difficult decisions we were making would serve the purpose of building an economy that works better for you and a country that is stronger for our children,” Tinubu said.
According to him, the scorecard is intended to give Nigerians a clearer picture of the government’s decisions and the progress recorded since the reforms began.
“Today, your government presents The Reforms Scorecard. It sets out what our reforms have achieved, what they have cost us, and the greater costs and harms we have prevented by acting when we did,” he said.
Tinubu said he had directed Oyedele to explain the figures behind the reforms, the choices made by the government, the progress recorded so far and the areas where more work remains.
“I have therefore directed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to give an account to Nigerians, to explain the numbers, the choices we have made, the progress recorded, and the work that remains,” the President stated.
He added that Nigerians deserved to understand how the reforms had affected the country and what they meant for individuals, families and businesses.
“You deserve to see the numbers. You deserve to know what has changed and what these reforms mean for you, your family, your business and our country,” Tinubu said.
The President concluded by describing the scorecard as an account of his administration’s stewardship to Nigerians.
“This is your government.
This is your country.
This is our account to you,” he said.
Tinubu also urged Nigerians to watch the Reforms Scorecard livestream on YouTube via theasovilla.
