President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election in Saturday’s governorship election, saying the result reflects the choice of the people.
Tinubu said he spoke with Adeleke by telephone on Sunday to congratulate him on his victory, which he said showed the confidence Osun voters have in the governor.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke @AAdeleke_01 earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said in a statement on his official X account on Sunday.
The President urged Adeleke to use his second term to unite residents of the state, regardless of how they voted during the election.
“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” he said.
Tinubu also commended the other candidates who contested the election, describing their participation as a contribution to Nigeria’s democratic development.
“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture,” he said.
According to the President, the outcome of the election demonstrated the people’s choice and showed that democracy remains strong in the country.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” he said.
Tinubu also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for their roles in the election.
“I must also commend the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security agencies for conducting a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner,” he said.
He wished Adeleke success as he begins another four-year term in office and prayed for the continued growth of Nigeria’s democracy.
“May our democracy continue to thrive and be strengthened,” the President said.
