Plateau Govt Condemns Fresh Attacks, Warns Residents Against Retaliation

The Plateau State Government has condemned fresh attacks reported in parts of Mangu and Jos South Local Government Areas, calling on residents to reject any attempt to retaliate over the violence.

The government’s position followed attacks in Mangu on Saturday, September 12, and a separate incident at Dungus Junction in Kuru, Jos South, on Sunday, September 13.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the state government said it had received the reports “with grave concern,” noting that the incidents resulted in deaths and injuries.

The government described the developments as “deeply disturbing,” particularly against the backdrop of ongoing efforts involving security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen peace and security across the state.

It appealed to residents of affected communities to remain alert and work with security agencies by providing information that could help prevent further attacks and identify those responsible.

“Citizens are equally urged to resist the temptation to resort to reprisal attacks, which can further escalate violence and undermine the peace-building efforts of the State,” the statement said.

The government also said security personnel had been deployed to the affected areas in Mangu and Kuru.

While commiserating with families who lost loved ones, the state government expressed concern for those injured in the attacks and wished them a speedy recovery.

“The Plateau State Government commiserates with the families of those who lost their lives and wishes the injured a speedy recovery,” Ramnap said.

The administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in the state, saying it would continue working with traditional and community leaders to prevent further deterioration of security.

The latest government statement comes after Newsmaxng reported of deadly attacks in Plateau State, including an incident at Dungus Junction where passengers travelling to Jos were attacked on Sunday night.
