The parents of Daniella Owoeye, who emerged as the highest scorer in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with 372 marks, have revealed how they discovered and utilised Prep50 as part of her preparation for the examination.
Speaking during an interview on the family’s preparation for the examination, Daniella ’s father, Mr Owoeye Taiwo, said he discovered Prep50 after listening to testimonies from parents and students who had previously used the platform.
According to him, the testimonies encouraged him to give his daughter the opportunity to use the platform.
He said, “I discovered Prep50. My mentor, my spiritual father, would say that it is wisdom to stand on the shoulders of those who are ahead of you to see further.
“I took time to listen to testimonies of persons, both parents and students, who had used Prep50 before, and I had been following them back to back. This time around, I said my daughter must give this a try.”
Taiwo explained that although obtaining the materials was financially demanding, he deliberately made efforts to provide Daniella with the Prep50 materials as part of her preparation.
He said the platform complemented the discipline and commitment Daniella had already demonstrated throughout her academic journey.
According to him, Daniella had consistently performed exceptionally well from primary school through secondary school, receiving several academic and character awards.
He, however, said her preparation for the UTME became so intense at a point that the family became concerned that she might be overworking herself.
Rather than discourage her, he said he began providing additional support to enable her concentrate on her studies.
“I decided to be her senior PA. I started doing some things, buying some things, asking her some things. At times, we needed to call her and ask, ‘Are you through with your reading?’ I would take her food. So I started engaging in some other things so that she could have her time to study,” he said.
Daniella ’s mother, Dr Mrs Owoeye Taiwo, who recently completed her PhD in Industrial Chemistry, also stressed the importance of parents being actively involved in their children’s education rather than assuming that paying school fees was sufficient.
She urged parents to make their children their friends so they could better understand their needs and challenges.
“Don’t be too busy that you don’t actually study your children. First of all, make them your friend,” she said.
The mother also encouraged parents to sit with their children while they study, monitor their progress, provide guidance and pray with them.
She said the family regularly prayed with Daniella during her preparation for the examination.
Reflecting on the lessons from their experience, Mrs Owoeye advised parents not to focus solely on sending their children to expensive schools, stressing the importance of providing them with quality educational materials and strategic preparation.
“It is not big schools with big names that make great minds,” she said, urging parents to invest in materials that could help their children prepare effectively for examinations.
The parents said Daniella ’s success was the result of a combination of disciplined study, parental support, quality preparation materials, faith and her longstanding commitment to academic excellence.
Daniella ’s score of 372 placed her at the top of the 2026 UTME results, making her the highest scorer in this year’s examination.
