Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has set an ambitious target of securing 80 per cent voter support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, as a political movement associated with Niger Delta businessman Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, donates 25 vehicles to strengthen grassroots mobilisation.
The development highlights growing political activities and efforts by Tinubu’s supporters to consolidate the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s influence ahead of the next presidential election.
Oyebanji reportedly urged party members and supporters to intensify grassroots engagement, stressing the importance of mobilising eligible voters across communities to achieve the ambitious electoral target.
The 25 campaign vehicles are expected to facilitate door-to-door campaigns, community outreach, political meetings and mobilisation activities across wards and local government areas in Ekiti State.
The movement is also expected to strengthen its engagement with residents, traditional institutions, religious groups and other community stakeholders as part of efforts to build support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
Oyebanji has maintained that cooperation between the federal and state governments is important for delivering development projects and sustaining ongoing programmes. His administration’s support for Tinubu’s re-election bid reflects the APC’s broader strategy of consolidating its political base in the South-West.
Meanwhile, supporters of the President have continued to defend his economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, arguing that the policies have increased resources available to state governments. However, concerns over the cost of living, unemployment and insecurity remain important issues that could influence voters’ decisions.
The donation of the campaign vehicles underscores the role of political movements and influential supporters in providing logistical assistance for electioneering activities.
Although the 80 per cent target signals strong confidence among Tinubu’s supporters in Ekiti State, achieving it will depend on voter sentiment, campaign organisation, public perception of government policies and participation in the 2027 presidential election.
As political mobilisation gathers momentum, the effectiveness of the campaign efforts will ultimately be determined by voters at the ballot box.
