Popular TikToker Alvin of Lagos has sparked reactions online after declaring himself a “strong hater of Nigerian men” while criticising what he described as the inappropriate treatment of women by some men.
In a video shared online, Alvin insisted that his statement was intentional, warning people against dismissing his criticism with the argument that “not all men” behave that way.
He recounted the experience of a woman who went out to eat with her friend and was approached by a man who complimented her before requesting her social media handle.
According to Alvin, the man’s first message to the woman was a request to make out in his car, a move he described as sexual harassment.
He expressed outrage that between 50 and 60 men on X allegedly defended the message, questioning why some men appeared to excuse behaviour they would not tolerate if the women involved were their mothers or sisters.
Alvin further accused some men of condemning inappropriate behaviour only when it affects women close to them, while disregarding similar experiences faced by other women.
His comments have reignited conversations about consent, sexual harassment, and how women are treated in public spaces and online.
