The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly reopened its investigation into allegations of financial crimes involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The move follows a petition by former House of Representatives member Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, who is seeking Atiku’s prosecution over the allegations.
The petition calls on the anti-graft agency to revisit a case dating back to 2006, including its earlier investigation under former EFCC chairman Nuhu Ribadu.
It also urges the commission to consider a subsequent report by a United States Senate subcommittee.
The petition was dated August 27, 2026, and reportedly received by the EFCC on September.
Agbonayinma appeared at the commission’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on October 12 to formally adopt the petition and respond to investigators’ questions.
