Court Ruling Nullifies David Mark-Led ADC Leadership, Puts 1,503 Aspirants’ 2027 Ambitions in Doubt

A Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the David Mark-led National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), throwing the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections into uncertainty.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu on November 5, 2026, also invalidated the party’s presidential primary that produced former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, as well as other candidate nominations.

The judgment followed a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, who challenged the legitimacy of the Mark-led leadership.

The ADC has rejected the ruling, insisting that an earlier court judgment upheld the leadership structure. The party says it will appeal the decision.

The development has raised concerns over the political future of 1,503 aspirants whose candidacies were reportedly affected, as the party faces a fresh legal battle ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku has also vowed to challenge the judgment, while opposition figures warn that the crisis could undermine political competition.
