Nigerian Law Students Apologise Over Viral TikTok Video, Accept Full Responsibility

A group of Nigerian law students has apologised following public backlash over their viral TikTok video, confirming that they have taken it down and accepted full responsibility for the controversy.

In an apology video, the students clarified that they never intended to ridicule the legal profession or suggest that young lawyers were incapable of representing clients in court.

They expressed regret to members of the public, the Council of Legal Education, their faculty’s disciplinary body and other relevant authorities over the video and its potential impact on the image of the legal profession.

The students reiterated their respect for the legal profession, noting that many of them had long dreamed of becoming lawyers and had worked hard to pursue their ambitions.

They also acknowledged the efforts of their lecturers in teaching them professional ethics and instilling strong moral values, insisting that their actions were not intended to undermine their training or the reputation of the profession.

“We have taken down the video and we have taken full responsibility,” the students said as they appealed for forgiveness.

The apology comes amid reactions to the controversial video, which sparked discussions about professionalism, social media conduct and the responsibilities of aspiring legal practitioners.
