Tragedy Strikes Yobe Medical Director as Twin Daughters Die 48 Hours Apart

Tragedy has struck the family of Professor Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Nguru, Yobe State, following the deaths of her twin daughters just 48 hours apart.

The deceased sisters, Dr Hadiyah Usman Abdullahi, a medical doctor, and Aidah Usman Abdullahi, a pharmacist, reportedly died on October 2 and October 4, 2026, respectively, following complications associated with sickle cell disease.

Hadiyah reportedly died on Friday after spending about a week receiving treatment at FMC Nguru following a sickle cell crisis.

She was subsequently laid to rest after funeral prayers were held at the Emir’s Palace in Nguru.

Her twin sister, Aidah, was receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital around the same period.

She reportedly improved and was discharged.

However, two days after her sister’s burial, Aidah visited Hadiyah’s grave.

She reportedly collapsed shortly after the visit and was rushed to a hospital, where she later died on Sunday.

The Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, confirmed Aidah’s death in a social media post, describing her as “the second twin” of Professor Usman.

The deaths of the two sisters within such a short period have left their family, friends, colleagues and members of the medical community devastated.

Both women were healthcare professionals, with Hadiyah working as a medical doctor and Aidah as a pharmacist.
