Twenty prospective NYSC corps members abducted in Imo State have regained their freedom after spending six days in captivity.
The victims were travelling from Ibadan to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states when they were kidnapped on October 1 along the Owerri-Onitsha Road.
The abductors reportedly initially demanded N50 million for each victim, before reducing the ransom to N5 million per person.
Following intensified efforts to secure their release, operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Police and other security agencies carried out a coordinated operation that led to the rescue of the 20 prospective corps members and another hostage.
The rescued victims were subsequently taken to a DSS medical facility in Owerri, where they are receiving medical attention and undergoing necessary checks.
The successful rescue has brought relief to the affected families, while security agencies continue efforts to track down those responsible for the abduction.
