A 30-year-old man, Emmanuel Okpara, has reportedly confessed to the killing of his girlfriend, Chinenye, following a heated argument over allegations concerning who infected the other with HIV.
The incident reportedly occurred in Enugu State on September 19, 2026.
In a video recording, Okpara narrated how he met Chinenye on Facebook in 2023 while he was in Nekede, Imo State. He said he later relocated to Enugu in December 2025, while Chinenye was serving her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Port Harcourt.
According to him, after completing her service, Chinenye returned to Enugu in March 2026, and the pair eventually began a relationship.
Okpara said Chinenye later visited him at his residence, where a conversation about sexually transmitted infections reportedly sparked an argument.
He claimed that he told her he could cure sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, hepatitis and syphilis. According to his account, Chinenye became angry and accused him of being responsible for infecting her with HIV.
He alleged that the argument escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Chinenye reportedly struck him with a pistol.
Okpara claimed he managed to take the weapon from her and hit her on the head with it, causing her to collapse. He further alleged that he subsequently attacked her with a machete.
He also claimed that he was under the influence of hard drugs at the time of the incident.
According to his account, Okpara wrapped Chinenye’s body in nylon and remained inside the apartment, saying he was overwhelmed by fear and did not know what to do.
Three days later, neighbours reportedly became suspicious after noticing a foul smell coming from the apartment. They allegedly broke into the residence and found Okpara inside with the decomposing body of the deceased.
Authorities are expected to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and Okpara’s claims. His account remains an allegation pending the outcome of the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
