Uber has ended its operations in Nigeria after 12 years in the country, with its exit taking effect on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The ride-hailing company disclosed this in a message to users on Wednesday, saying the decision followed a review of its business operations in the country.
“After a thorough review of our business, we have made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Nigeria, effective 2 September 2026,” the company said.
Uber launched its services in Lagos in 2014 and said it had since become part of the daily lives of Nigerians by connecting users with independent transportation providers.
Reflecting on its time in the country, the company thanked customers for using its platform for their daily commutes, visits to loved ones and movement around the city.
“Since we first launched in Lagos in 2014, it has been an absolute privilege to be a part of your daily life connecting you with independent transportation providers,” Uber said.
The company acknowledged that its exit could disrupt the routines of users and apologised for the inconvenience.
“Our Help Center will be available until 23 September 2026 to help you with any final account queries,” the statement added.
Uber ended its message by thanking Nigerians for welcoming the company into the country.
“Thank you for welcoming us into your city.”
