Two people are feared dead following a violent clash at a motor park in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, on Monday.
The incident reportedly occurred around Naira and Kobo Junction after an alleged attempt by a group of drivers to take control of the park.
According to sources who spoke with PUNCH, drivers said to be loyal to the All Progressives Congress had been operating the park before another group of drivers, reportedly affiliated with the Accord Party, arrived around 10:30am and allegedly attempted to take over the facility.
The confrontation reportedly escalated into violence, with two people feared killed.
Videos and photographs obtained from the scene showed men lying in pools of blood. One of the videos showed a man sitting inside a vehicle with what appeared to be a severe injury to his head, while another image showed a man lying face down.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said political thugs were involved in the confrontation.
“A political thug named said to be working for APC and his team were at the motorpark in Ikire around Naira and Kobo area in Ikire when some political thugs from Accord stormed the area around 10:30am to take over the place,” the eyewitness said.
The clash also reportedly resulted in damage to a newly acquired police vehicle.
“During the melee, a new Toyota Hilux donated to Ikire Divisional Police Station was damaged. The windscreen was smashed and the tyres damaged,” the eyewitness added.
The circumstances surrounding the reported deaths had yet to be officially established as of the time of the report.
The incident comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, with parties and their supporters increasingly active across the state.
